On May 12, 2021 Rick Benjamin received an official Proclamation from the City of Asbury Park, New Jersey, for his decades of work preserving the legacy of Arthur Pryor, the community’s famed early 20th century conductor/composer. The Proclamation read in part, “Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved That, Mayor John Moor and the Asbury Park City Council do hereby acknowledge the contributions to musicology made by Rick Benjamin, and thank him for his dedication to the preservation and promotion of one of the City’s rare gems.” The occasion for this public award was the May 12 rededication of the restored Arthur Pryor Bandshell in Asbury Park, which was musically curated and conducted by Mr. Benjamin.
